  The School of Public Health, The University of North Carolina, 1939-1989. Written by Robert Korstad of the Duke Sanford School of Public Policy, the book was commissioned by Dean Michel Ibrahim for the School's 50th anniversary. Harriet Barr worked closely with Korstad.

• UNC public health, on the eve of becoming a school
  As characterized in the University Record for 1939-1940, "The Division of Public Health is geographically and spiritually in the School of Medicine, with which it maintains close cooperation.Academically, it clears through the Graduate School and those interested are advised to consult the Graduate School Catalogue." (p.7). The change to a School of Public Health became effective in June 1940.
