* A Call for Papers: Community-Based Participatory Research
In 2002, The Journal of Internal Medicine(JGIM) will publish a special issue devoted to Community-Based Participatory Research(CBPR). This issue will build on the efforts of the Society of General Internal Medicine, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the W. G. Kellog Foundation. Authors are encouraged to submit papers that would fit the Journal's sections for innovations in Education and Clinical Practice, Populations at Risk, and Health Policy. * Envronmental Justice: Partnerships To Address Ethical Challenges In Environmental Health.

*The Collaborative HIV Prevention Research in Minority Communities Program
Investigators from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Center for AIDS Prevention Studies will work with 11-12 scientists each summer. For the upcoming summer (2002), three scientists will be selected to develop an ethnic minority-focused HIV prevention research project. They will spend six weeks during each of three consecutive summers at CAPS (San Francisco, CA); they will receive a stipend of $6,000/mo. * Yerby Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
Five fellowships are available for members of African American, Hispanic, Native American and/or Pacific Islander communities. Each fellow in the program is given the opportunity to develop as a scholar and as an independent researcher. The program seeks, at the end of the fellowship, to position minority scientists and policy analysts in roles of leadership, teaching, research, public service, and national health policy. * Africare-Eastman Kodak Internship for Africa
A six-month internship(Feb 25, 2002 - Aug 2, 2002)in South Africa. Applicants should have completed at least an undergraduate degree and have a sound background in computer and information technology. The internship will include a 2- to 3-day orientation at Africare House in Washington, DC, roundtrip airfare from home of record to Johannesburg, a baggage allowance, transport as needed within South Africa, medical and evacuation insurance, vaccinations, accommodations and monthly stipend of $1,000. * Postdoctoral Fellowship on Race, Crime and Justice
encourages new scholars of diverse backgrounds to work and publish in this important field. One fellowship is awarded each year for a two-year residency at the Vera Institute in New York. Fellows will receive a $45,000 annual salary + benefits and a modest research allowance to pursue a scholarly project of their own design. Application deadline January 10, 2002. * Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Center for the Americas, Wesleyan University, 2002-03.
Wesleyan University invites applications for two fellowships in Native American Studies and Latin American studies. Fellowships carry limited teaching duties, and opportunities for scholarly research and professional development, annual stipend of $44,000, research/travel funds and health insurance. *Research Fellowships on HIV Prevention in Communities of Color
National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . This project seeks 4 behavioral scientists or epidemiologists with a terminal degree (e.g. Ph.D., M.D. or Dr. P.H.) per year. It is anticipated that each fellow will have a two-year appointment. Salaries will range from $44,000-$48,000/year, depending on experience. The fellowship will begin September 1, 2002. * National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics' Subcommittee on Populations hearings
The National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics' Subcommittee on Populations will hold hearings on the collection and use of racial and ethnic data on February 11-12,2002. These hearings will be open to the public and materials and minutes will be posted on the NCVHS web site.
* Project L/EARN
Project L/EARN identifies African American and Latino undergraduates with an interest in health-related social science fields, and provides training, experience and mentoring which makes them stronger candidates for admission to relevant graduate programs. Funded by an NIMH grant to by the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research at Rutgers University.
* UNCF-Merck Fellowships for African-American Graduate & Postdoctoral Students
The United Negro College Fund and The Merck Company Foundation fellowships are a component of the UNCF-Merck Science Initiative, which has the goal of increasing the pool of well-qualified African-American research scientists in the biomedical sciences and related scientific disciplines. At least 12 Dissertation Fellowship awards and 10 postdoctoral fellowshipswill be made in 2002. * Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships for Minorities
