The presentation will be made from a "micro-population" perspective and will include:

• Reflections about the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study in the context of poverty


• Speaking to early childhood education as a "primary prevention strategy" of health disparities


• The impact of trauma on health and a discussion of where the gains and challenges are

"Early Childhood Education: Head Start's Role in Addressing Disparities" [slides] [handout]

The presentation will address:

• Head Start's ongoing efforts to help connect children to medical and dental homes


• The importance of the adults in the lives of children to be connected to medical homes and to have good health outcomes


• The Affordable Care Act and the impact that it could have on the health outcomes of low-income children
