Mozambique and President Joachim ChissanoIn 1992, President Joachim Chissano learned transcendental meditation, at the urging of his friend Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda. He arranged for his family, then his cabinet ministers and his wider government to learn TM, and in 1994, TM became a requirement for all military and police recruits. Mozambique experienced peace and increasing prosperity, which Chissano attributed to TM. He is quoted as saying, ‘The result has been political peace and balance in nature in my country...The culture of war has to be replaced by the culture of peace. For that purpose, something deeper has to be changed in our mind and in our consciousness to prevent the recurrence of war.’" (http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/out-the-darkness/201212/can-meditation-change-the-world)
