- Developing situation awareness capacity to improve executive judgment and decision making under stress (doctoral dissertation)
Martha M. Batorski (dissertation chair: Kenneth Murrell, DBA), April, 2012. Submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education in Organization Change, Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology.
Abstract (excerpts):
". . . The study specifically examines the Transcendental Meditation™ technique within the context of a 10-week intervention for developing SA [situation awareness] capacity in emerging leaders (N = 35), for which pre- and post-data were collected and analyzed. The research approach involved an intervention group (n = 18) trained in the twice-daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation™ technique and a control group
(n = 17) with no intervention. . . . The results of the study support a positive relationship between the Transcendental Meditation technique on the improvement of SA capacity in emerging leaders . . ."
- Norwich paves way for widespread use of Transcendental Meditation
Erin Gats, The Guidon, Norwich University, December 11, 2014 Transcendental Meditation (TM) was first introduced to Norwich in 2010, when longtime donor and supporter Joan Andrews Prentice brought information to the president about TM, and since then the program has grown, said the Director of the Center for Student Success. “She thought that it would be something that the university (would find) very beneficial, particularly because at that time the David Lynch Foundation (DLF), which was a foundation she was connected with, was doing some research on PTSD and helping veterans with TM,” said Shelby Gile, the Director of the Center for Student Success.
- Norwich Psychology Professor Studies Meditation’s Effect on PTSD
Isabel Weinger Nielsen, Norwich University Happenings, Sept 25, 2015? Carole Bandy, professor of psychology and CoLA’s most recent Dana professor, has been studying threat perception since 2007 with her colleagues Kevin Fleming, professor of psychology at Norwich University, and Matt Kimble, associate professor of psychology at Middlebury College. She is currently finishing a manuscript about Transcendental Meditation (TM) studies done at Norwich University in 2011-12 and 2012-13. In both studies, 60 incoming rooks were randomly assigned; 30 to do TM right away and 30 to do TM six months later.

- Prof. Carole Bandy Explores Mysteries of the Human Brain, Trauma, and Well-being
Norwich University News, August 9, 2016 For more than two decades, Norwich University social psychologist Carole Bandy, PhD, has applied her innate curiosity about how the brain works to study real-world problems. Problems like cultural stereotyping and shooting bias or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Working with colleagues on campus and around the globe, she has applied eye-tracking and electroencephalogram (EEG) data studies in novel ways. Her research has helped illuminate how the clothes people wear can activate or suppress a stereotype and how Transcendental Meditation can boost resiliency or reverse PTSD.
