- Cross-sectional and longitudinal study of effects of Transcendental Meditation practice on interhemispheric frontal asymmetry and frontal coherence
Frederick Travis and Alarik Arenander. International Journal of Neuroscience 2006;116(12):1519-1538 Two studies investigated frontal alpha lateral asymmetry and frontal interhemispheric coherence during eyes-closed rest, Transcendental Meditation (TM) practice, and computerized reaction-time tasks. In the first study, frontal coherence and lateralized asymmetry were higher in 13 TM subjects than in 12 controls. In the second study (N = 14), a one-year longitudinal study, lateral asymmetry did not change in any condition. In contrast, frontal coherence increased linearly during computer tasks and eyes-closed rest, and as a step-function during TM practice—rising to a high level after 2-months TM practice. Coherence was more sensitive than lateral asymmetry to effects of TM practice on brain functioning.
- Fred Travis, neuroscientist - interview
In the field on neuroscience, Dr. Fred Travis is known as one of the leading scientists studying the effects of Transcendental Meditation on brain functioning.
Tmhome.com decided in turn to study the effects of Transcendental Meditation on the functioning of Dr. Travis.

- Interview with Harald Harung - The Three Proven Keys for Peak Performance
"What are the qualities of a peak performer? Can you develop them? If so, how? These are some of the enticing questions Dr. Harung answers in this insightful interview with Michael Sternfeld of the New Mavericks organization. Learn how to leverage exercise, music, and transcendence for mind-brain refinement and sophistication. "Dr. Harung holds a PhD from the University of Manchester. He has worked as a researcher at Oxford University, a naval officer, CEO of an engineering firm, founder and president of an international business college, and has been one of the editors of The Learning Organization—an international journal. Dr. Harung has published papers in Journal of Managerial Psychology, Cognitive Processing, Consciousness and Cognition, Management Decision, and the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports. His book Invincible Leadership was published in the USA (MUM Press) and the Czech Republic (Euromedia). A second book is in progress."

On June 8, 2011, the David Lynch Foundation held a benefit gala in Washington DC with filmmaker David Lynch, CNN anchor Candy Crowley, and famed psychiatrist Dr Norman Rosenthal to highlight the successes of two of the Foundation's key programs: "Operation Warrior Wellness" for veterans who suffer from PTSD and "The Quiet Time Program" for students who must overcome the ravages of acute stress in order to learn and succeed in life. Highlights included emotionally charged videos of meditating students and veterans, a lively, compelling conversation between Candy Crowley and David Lynch, and a fascinating discussion by Dr Rosenthal of new research documenting the wideranging benefits of TM practice for all areas of life.
- Meditation and the Brain (41 min)
The effects of Transcendental Meditation on the brain.
Presented at the Rubin Museum of Art on February 19, 2015
Hosted by the David Lynch Foundation, the evening featured a live EEG demonstration and presentations from:
Dr. Fred Travis, distinguished neuroscientist and pioneering researcher in the study of meditation, consciousness and the brain. Dr. Travis has authored over 70 papers and conference presentations investigating the relation between brain patterns, conscious processes, states of consciousness, and Transcendental Meditation. He is currently the Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management.
Dr. William Stixrud, leading clinical neuropsychologist and Director of The Stixrud Group, a DC-based organization specializing in neuropsychological assessment of children, adolescents and adults with learning, attention, social and/or emotional disorders. Dr. Stixrud is a frequent lecturer on the subjects of neuropsychological assessment, learning and executive disorders, brain development, motivation and TM’s effect on stress, sleep deprivation and technology overload on the brain.
- Pamela Peeke - The Hacked and Highjacked Body (2 hr 20 min)
Dr. Pam Peeke talks about the science behind food and addiction. She also shows us how we can harness the emerging science of epigenetics to make lifestyle changes, including transcendental meditation, which can transform our own DNA.
