But its demographics are just as skewed as those at Stuyvesant High School, the Bronx High School of Science or the other specialized schools, where white and Asian students dominate. In a public school system where 67 percent of students are black or Hispanic, estimates for this school year show that 6.3 percent of Hunter High School students are Hispanic; 2.2 percent are black.

The percentage of the state’s 1.8 million students attending traditional public schools has dropped to 80.8 percent and is continuing to fall rapidly.

The TM Quiet Time program has been introduced in hundreds of charter schools, San Francisco and Chicago public schools, and schools in Europe, Latin America, African, and Asia. Data indicate that the Quiet Time program is associated with reduced absenteeism, fighting, suspensions, and teacher turnover, and improved grades, test scores, and behavior.

- This Triangle school system is scanning students' social media for danger signs
Matt Goad and Greg Childress, Herald-Sun, June 28, 2018 Orange County Schools has hired a firm to scan students' social media posts for danger signals. The district is paying a little over $10,000 a year to the Vermont-based Social Sentinel firm to use software to search for keywords pointing to threats of violence, suicide and other self-harm, and bullying 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The software searches Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Meetup, Periscope and other public sites.
