Initially a patient at the Delta Health Center, L.C. Dorsey went on to earn degrees in public health and became the center's director.

L.C. Dorsey joined the Delta Health Center in 1967 to direct its North Bolivar County Farm Cooperative. From 1988 to 1995, Dorsey served as the Executive Director for the Delta Health Center in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, providing complete family medical care and social services for widespread poor populations.
