Annice
Eu-Shin Kim is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Health Behavior
and Health Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
School of Public Health (UNC SPH).
She
has been an active member of the UNC SPH Minority Student Caucus (link),
serving as co-chair from 2002-2003 and as a planning committee member
for the student-run Annual Minority Health Conference since 1999. Her
research interests include: health communication and health literacy;
transdisciplinary application of Internet and new media technologies
for health education, outreach, and grassroots advocacy; and tobacco
marketing and advertising in the digital media. Ms. Kims
dissertation examines how Internet cigarette vendors market and sell
cigarettes and how these strategies influence smokers motivations
for purchasing cigarettes online. She has presented her research at
numerous public health, tobacco control, and Internet research conferences
and has co-authored several papers in the Journal of the American
Medical Association, American Journal of Public Health, Preventive
Medicine, and Tobacco Control. Upon graduation, she hopes
to continue her training with a post-doctoral fellowship before seeking
a research and teaching position at a public health academic institution.
She is currently a recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Substance
Abuse Policy Research Program Minority Supplement Grant.
