Annice Eu-Shin Kim, M.P.H.Annice Eu-Shin Kim is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health (UNC SPH). She has been an active member of the UNC SPH Minority Student Caucus (link), serving as co-chair from 2002-2003 and as a planning committee member for the student-run Annual Minority Health Conference since 1999. Her research interests include: health communication and health literacy; transdisciplinary application of Internet and new media technologies for health education, outreach, and grassroots advocacy; and tobacco marketing and advertising in the digital media. Ms. Kims dissertation examines how Internet cigarette vendors market and sell cigarettes and how these strategies influence smokers motivations for purchasing cigarettes online. She has presented her research at numerous public health, tobacco control, and Internet research conferences and has co-authored several papers in the Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Public Health, Preventive Medicine, and Tobacco Control. Upon graduation, she hopes to continue her training with a post-doctoral fellowship before seeking a research and teaching position at a public health academic institution. She is currently a recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Substance Abuse Policy Research Program Minority Supplement Grant.
