“I am enjoying the material and find the course to be very interesting. I also enjoy the opportunity to discuss the case studies with group members so that I can see other perspectives and get clarification on tricky points. I have found the quizzes to be a bit more difficult than I expected, and I don't feel that I had enough time to complete the first three quizzes. I think even if I had just five more minutes, I would be able to spend more time thinking critically about the questions and performing calculations. In other courses, I've found quizzes that allow multiple attempts to be very helpful, as I can immediately clarify points that I may not have fully understood.”

“I like having group discussions on the forum as even though getting the correct answer on the case study is not necessary, having another set of opinions helps me think through my answer before submitting and checking my answers”

“The case studies are very lengthy but do help me to understand the course material. I also just find the course material very interesting and applicable to my other studies, a nice compliment.”

“I think the course is set up great! I've taken 4 other on line courses through the department on public health and I think this one is the best. I appreciate all the different avenues we have to learn and participate and built in structures to keep people from falling through the cracks. There are a lot of moving pieces to coordinate so I really appreciate the time that Vic and the TAs have put into keeping things consistent and well organized.”

“I really like the format you've chosen - it works well for an online class. I'd much prefer to be able to take something like this in person though with you!”

“I was unclear at the beginning of the semester what the expectations for our work, particularly the forums, were. It took some time to define these expectations and try to coordinate schedules, which took away from some of the introductory material and discussion.”

“The course is flying at a pretty good pace. I am fortunate to have a good group that is motivated to attack each case study with vigor.”

“I am really enjoying the content. It's interesting, and also challenging. I'm learning a lot from the textbook, lectures and case study questions. I would like to have more time to complete the weekly quizes. I find that I need more time to read the questions and possible answers before gathering my thoughts about the correct response. Could we have just 5~10 additional minutes to complete each quiz?”

“I'm learning more than I thought I would! And I'm already applying some of the concepts that I have learned to my other work. / / I think you should provide more guidance about facilitation and group work. This is a major part of getting something out of the course and probably warrants a separate, detailed document. This is what a facilitator does..and examples. Do interact with each other! Do post your responses outside of your scheduled responses. Things like that. I know it seems intuitive, but it has taken me a couple of weeks to catch on to the intention and really start engaging!”

“Please give more minutes to solve quiz for the student who use English As a Second Language. / 20 minutes is too short to read and write for international student, even though he/she completely know everything about learning objects.”

“I think it's helpful in learning basic terms of public health like risk, prevalence, incidence, etc. I wish we learned more sophisticated analysis methods, but the foundation is important too.”

“Overall, the professor and both TAs have been wonderfully responsive and helpful. All three show a keen interest in not only epidemiology but also in teaching the concepts to students. The resources have been very appropriate as far as"just the right amount"needed to convey information from each module, and the pace has been commensurate with the amount of material assignmed. I was slightly confused by the flow of the modules with Labor Day and Module 4 not having an assignment, but I think that was more due to my error in reading the schedule than anything else. The weekly emails detailing the plan for the week, as well as the opportunity to participate in real-time during live meetings, really helpt to focus the week and allow direct feedback and a way to get to know the class, respectively. I look forward to the rest of the semester!”

“I was advised to take BIOS 600 before taking EPID 600. I did that and it has been helpful (and perhaps will be even more helpful as the semester progresses). But I still wish that I had taken this course earlier. I am now just over half-way finished with the MPH. It is obvious that much of what is said in other courses would have been clearer and more meaningful had I taken this course earlier.”

“I really dislike the 15 minute timed quizzes, and I feel like we should have more time to complete the work. In most of my epidemiology classes, there is significantly more time to complete the tests and quizzes.”
