"Al" Tyroler, as Dr. H.A. Tyroler was known by his colleagues at the UNC School of Public Health, was one of the founding faculty members of the Department of Epidemiology. Al created the Cardiovascular Epidemiology research and training program as well as other key initiatives. He was a legendary teacher. He mentored countless students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty, served on countless committees, and contributed in innumerable ways.
