"Hrabowski is chair of the newly created President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans. His passion for civil rights began in 1963, when at age 12 Hrabowski marched as a youth leader in Martin Luther King’s Children’s Crusade in Birmingham, an act which put in jail for a week. The march and the words of Dr. King inspire him to this day." (from APHA 2015 announcement)
