  The retreat took place at Quail Roost on June 17, 1974. Topics considered included Curriculum development, Advanced methods course, Field training and community-related programs, and Career opportunities for epidemiologists. There was also a staff session that discussed, among other topics, Telephones, Job satisfaction, Issues related to requests for work by secretaries, Space issues, and Faculty-staff working relationships.

• First doctoral qualifying examination
  February 2, 1978. This was the first year of a doctoral qualifying examination. Previously only a masters comprehensive examination had been given (Vic believes). The topic selected in 1978 was Reserpine and Breast Cancer. The other two topic choices were (1) Type A Behavior and Coronary Disease and (2) [Vic does not recall]
