Shelley Francis shared highlights from 1/9/02 meeting. Kacey is looking for volunteers to assist with publicity efforts. The publicity committee will need help hanging posters around campus and will need help posting conference information to various websites. Maceo and Aviva will set up new list serv(email address) for the mass email that will be sent out to students regarding the conference. Barbara will need an internal list of committee members whose conference registration fee will be waived. Transparencies advertising the conference will be available for students to display in class. Vic reported that over 30 sites have registered. Lisa Pullen will be the moderator for the question and answer session with Dr. James and Vic will need 1-2 additional volunteers to help with various tasks. Chandra was not able to attend but Dr. Farquar(sp) has been confirmed by Jim Thrasher. However, she needs to present at 3pm. The committee will try and switch the incarceration session to 1:30 and the Asian Health session to 3pm. The committee is working on confirming an additional speaker for the Asian Health session. Also, Dr. Lori Carter Edwards may be added to the Research Methods session. Maggie Hicken is working on confirming an additional speaker for the Native American session Seronda reported that 3 abstracts have been received. 1 of the 3 is under review. She is anticipating 4 additional submissions shortly. Kyna reported that we have five exhibitors, and she has spoken with six other who are interested in participating. Maceo spoke to a contact from the Center for Health Behavior and they may be a potential exhibitor. They may also submit an abstract. Vic recommended that NC-HCAP, run by Dr. Moses Goldman, be invited to exhibit. Shelley suggested that students who exhibited during APHA should be encouraged to submit abstracts. Vic recommended that we contact Marion Promise of the NIH Office of Women’s Health. She offered financial support for the conference last year. Planning committee will meet Thursday, January 31s at 3:30pm in Aundra Shield’s office (4th floor MCG). N/A January 30, 2002 location to be announced. |
Publicity efforts ongoing. Kacey needs volunteers to assist the committee. Maceo and Aviva will set up listserv. Shelley and Maceo will forward list of conference members to Barbara. Kacey is working on finishing the transparencies. Angie will assist Vic with the Q& A session. Speaker committee is finalizing speakers and program. Barbara will ask Yolanda to update the conference website Annice Kim is working on the speaker for the Asian Health session and Seronda will follow up with Dr. Edwards. Maggie will continue to follow up on the speaker Committee is still working on getting additional abstracts. Several MH committee members will submit abstracts. K. McCullough will follow up with Dr. Goldman Committee continues to follow up with organizations and departments. Committee will follow up. Interested parties should contact Kyna McCullough. |
