24th Annual Minority Health Conference Planning Committee
Minutes from July 25,2001
I. Introductions/ Announcements Attendance:
Maceo Thomas, Barbara Chavious, Sacoby Wilson, Aundra Shields, Melissa Green, Chandra Ford, Rachel Davis.
Chandra reported on the Black Radical Congress that she chaired. This past weekend it occurred on campus in conjunction with the Sonya B Stone Cultural Center. Potential Speakers: Kim Diehl (Southerners on a New Ground, linking homophobia, racism and HIV), Gary Grant has talked 2 years in a row (let's keep that in mind), Black Farmers and Agriculturists Association.

III. Brainstorming of Breakout sessions:
We decided to proceed with four sessions to begin acquiring speakers with: Research Methods, Funding for interventions (possbibly a morning and afternoon session), City planning , Media images & advertising.
Speaker Pool can come from economics, dentistry, social medicine, public policy (public policy institute @ Duke), School of Library Science.
We have made having a quality session on issues pertaining to Native Americans a priority. Everyone should thinkabout potential speakers that we can use for this session. Potential speakers: Jon Jefferies from Hillsboro, reestablishing Native American Culture (contact Barbara).
We discussed giving speakers more direction when asking thenm to speak so that our sessions continue to fit with the theme. Potential Exhibitors can be funders.
