Miriam ThomasMiriam Thomas is co-anchor of News Channel 11 ABC broadcasts at 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00pm and co-hosts WTVD's locally produced program Solutions. Prior to coming to News Channel 11 in 1982, Ms. Thomas worked at WSOC-FM in Charlotte NC and WSTP-AM in Salisbury NC and served as a general assignment reporter and anchor at WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta, a national public service sorority and the United Negro College Fund Telethon steering committee. Ms. Thomas received the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for her series "Poverty Has A Woman's Face", which also received commendations from American Women in Radio and Television and the National Commission on Working Women. The National Commission also awarded her first place for their "Women at Work Award" for her series on women in ministry, "Equal Under God." Ms. Thomas has also received community service awards in both Fort Myers, Florida, and North Carolina and the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award and the Outstanding Young Woman of America Award from her alma mater, Livingstone College. |
