UNCLE Databases (www.uncle.unc.edu):

MEDLINE (1966- ) - encompasses information from Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing, as well as other sources of coverage in the areas of allied health, biological and physical sciences, humanities and information science as they relate to medicine and health care, communication disorders, population biology, and reproductive biology. More than 8.7 million records from more than 3,600 journals are indexed.

AIDSline (1980- ) - includes articles from over 3,000 journals published worldwide, as well as government reports, letters, technical reports, meeting abstracts (eg., International Conferences on AIDS) and papers , monographs, special publications, theses, books, and audiovisual materials.

Current Contents (current year) - provides access to the tables of contents and bibliographic data from current issues of the world's leading scholarly research journals in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. Cover-to-cover indexing of journal articles, reviews, meeting abstracts, editorials, etc., is provided for more than 7500 international journals covering all disciplines.

HealthSTAR (1975- ) - contains citations to the published literature on health services, technology, administration, and research. It focuses on both the clinical and non-clinical aspects of health care delivery.

ISI Citation Databases - Web of Science provides access to the Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index.

Academic Universe - provides access to most of the information formerly available on the Lexis/Nexis Educational Program (approximately 75% of the titles). Covers general, regional and international news, company news and financial information, legal information (including law reviews, case law and legal rulings), and other topics such as biographical information. Many of the files are full-text.

Catalog of US Government Documents - catalog of documents from the U.S. Government Printing Office issued since 1976 can be searched by author, title, and keyword. The material listed in the database is available from the Documents Section of the Davis Library.

Dissertation Abstracts Online - abstracts for doctoral dissertations beginning July 1980 and for masters theses beginning spring 1988. Covers dissertations accepted at accredited U.S institutions since 1861. It selectively covers masters theses, Canadian dissertations, and British and other European dissertations.

GPO Access - service of the U.S. Government Printing Office that provides free electronic access to federal documents.

Statistical Universe - provides indexing and abstracts from the American Statistics Index (ASI) covering statistical publications issued by the U.S. government from 1973 to the present, full-text of over 800 U.S. government statistical publications from 1995 forward, and links from abstract/index records to full-text publications on government web sites. This service is updated monthly. Statistical Universe is a service of Congressional Information Service (CIS).

POPLINE - contains citations to the worldwide literature on family planning and population, maternal and child health care, sexually transmitted diseases, community-based services, community issues, demography, vital statistics, and related health. law, and policy issues.

OSHROM - provides citations and abstracts to the worldwide literature on occupational safety and health covered in four databases: CISDOC, HSELINE, MHIDAS, and NIOSHTIC.

TOXLINE - contains citations and abstracts on biological and adverse effects of drugs, human and animal toxicity, pesticides, environmental chemicals and pollutants, industrial and household chemicals, and radioactive materials.

 

Free access to Medline and other databases from the National Library of Medicine:

Internet Grateful Med (http://igm.nlm.nih.gov/) - provides access to MEDLINE, AIDSline, HealthSTAR, HSRPROJ, POPLINE, and TOXLINE, and others.

PubMed (http://www4.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/) - provides access to MEDLINE and PREMEDLINE (very current entries).
