MELISSA L. BONDY

Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Melissa Bondy is professor of Epidemiology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Director of the Childhood Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Center, (a collaborative program between M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital). Photo of Dr. BondyShe is also Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Hematology/Oncology Section, Houston, TX. Dr. Bondy's epidemiological research primarily focuses on understanding multiple risk factors - such as genetic susceptibility and heredity - associated with development of brain gliomas and breast cancer. She is also known for insightful research involving families of glioma patients and for studies to evaluate genetic susceptibility and environmental determinants in breast and colorectal cancer.

She has served on numerous advisory committees for NIH including serving as a permanent member of Epidemiology and Disease Control Study Section and has served as an ad hoc member for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. She is a scientific review advisor for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation and has served as a permanent member of the Epidemiology Group for the Department of Veterans Affairs. She is chair of the Epidemiology Committee of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), has served on the board of American Society for Preventive Oncology (secretary/treasurer), and is a board member of the Society for Neuro-oncology and American College of Epidemiology. She is a section editor for the journal CANCER and serves on the editorial boards of the journal of Neuro-Oncology, Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, and Breast Diseases Quarterly. She is a member of the Children's Oncology Group Epidemiology Steering Committee, Childhood Cancer Group Neuroblastoma Committee, American College of Epidemiology Policy Committee and the National Brain Tumor Foundation Scientific Advisory Committee.
